Title: The Hidden Letters
Publisher: Bluejay Books Pvt. Ltd.
The Hidden Letters by Purba Chakraborty is a reflection of today’s strong women. By saying this, I didn’t mean to state that the women from previous generations of ours are not strong rather; I mean to say that carrying a multi-faceted persona with a dignified personality is not as easy as said. A successful lady – both in terms of personal and professional life; too has a grey shade to her character. Does ‘grey’ color depict the negative aura only? Isn’t it better to have tones and shades instead of solid colors? After all, life is as vibrant as a rainbow with different shades. Isn’t it? This plot elaborates the grey areas!
The most striking aspect for me was not the plot or the story or the characters or the beginning or the ending and not the book cover even. Though, they score high on my review quotient parameters but the best was the author’s capability to dive into the psyche of a mature lady and dissect her to the possibly last of the tissues and cells. I melted on the very thought that how could she understand and respect such emotions and with mature mindset and an embracing temperament. Purba, is too young but the writer in her oozes intelligence and perseverance. The readers, who have read her before, will agree to me and for the ones, who now wish to learn more about her skills, here is what I would like to share with you.
We all make little adjustments and modifications in our lives (including our past) in order to make it complete in the best sense possible. This includes imbibing love within the spouse and within the immediate family, as soon as we become blessed with the kids. Sometimes, these adjustments and modifications force us to take a call, which we do not want to but we are not left with more choices, as well. Such is the irony of fate. In such a course of action, we opt for an equation that involves lesser risks and unknowingly land into a pothole in future. This story begins as soon as the protagonist – Anaya, finds herself in one such pothole.
She finds one of her cousins, in a distressed state one fine day and to her (Anaya’s) dismay she believes that only she is responsible for her cousin’s present state of mind! She reconciles the facts and happenings in their past lives and deduces the cause behind her (cousin’s) dismissal, they were – The Hidden Letters. Before, starting to read the book, I thought that may be the book will start with a mention of unveiling of some hidden letters or may be the story will end with the unveiling of the hidden letters; I even thought that these letters will bring a sharp turn in some smooth flow of events but to my surprise, she proved me wrong in each and every aspect! She started before introducing these letters and brought the story to an end much after that – a comprehensive approach. Trust me this is the most prized aspect that will bring accolades to the author for her book.
Some may perceive it to be just another love triangle story but friends, buy my words, it is not such in any sense. It is far much conceptual and worthy of a read. It carries dimensions length, breadth and depth in terms of story. A simple story, beautifully crafted around an interesting plot with easy relatable and very balanced characters and an inspiring ending she has added every ingredient to make it appealing for all. This includes the readers who read to satiate their minds, hearts and soul as well, alike.
I personally admire how she unfolds the emotions of a wife who sees reflections of her past in her future, a husband who sees effects of his past in his present, a teen age girl child who learns her parent’s past in order to secure her future and a family friend, who becomes the connecting link between the past, present and future lives of this family, who feels guilty and responsible for some another’s life. She has attended to each and every emotion in detail and in a flawless manner. You will enjoy reading about the insecurity of wife, adamant nature of husband, worries of a child whose parents are way apart, and concern of a friend who cannot bear the pain of his friend.
She makes the story more impactful by using very simple language, direct dialogues and a lot and lot of introspection. An expressive cover page is the ‘cherry on the cake’. I liked it. You will feel as if your long lost emotions are being gifted words! So, what are you waiting for? The truth is calling from the hidden letters…catch hold of it ASAP.
