My Review

And He Wanted Me Dead – is a story of deception, a story of betrayal, a story of a dead with an ulterior motive behind his well planned death. As the title suggests somebody wanted some other person to be dead but why? Every life has a story to tell and so is the death here. Nevertheless, the difference lies in the fact that how a story gets surfaced and is shared with the living world; sometimes after being dead! Whatever, the case is, the truth unveils at the end and at times, it is far from reality but not this time.

Jasper, the author starts the story with the scene of crime, the ‘dead’ body and a committed police inspector who is in-charge of this case, in question. The mystery starts as soon as the hunt for the owner of the car starts and delves deeper as his family is found and search for the convict begins. As the back cover introduces the readers about the story, that this is a crime and suspense thriller, so will be my guiding points for the book review as well.

A crime is spotted as soon as we start reading the first page of the book. The description of the scene of crime, the findings done, the observations made, the efforts put in to control mob and collect the maximum proofs from the point of action and the surroundings makes it a perfect potpourri of having committed a heinous crime.

The suspense builds up as soon as the inspector identifies the family of the deceased and starts searching for the convict(s). A dilemma of the case being an attempt of suicide or an attempt to murder further aggravates the quotient of making it an intriguing suspense.

The thrill in the story sets in as he proceeds to investigate the suspects and during the course of action, experiences varied emotions on meeting the family and new secrets unveil. While treading on the journey his own past life reckons him and not to weaken but to empower him to focus on proceed towards the perceived goal.

Does he identify the real culprit? Was he murdered or did he part ways from his life, all by himself? What was the motive behind ending his life and what benefits did he leave to be enjoyed behind? Who is the real benefactor of all this chaos? Read this story to find out the reality of the incidents evident in front of the eyes and seem to be nothing but obvious!

Despite of being a first time author, Jasper has a very engaging writing style. Writing crime or suspense thriller is not as easy as said; it definitely requires decent understanding of writing style and thinking capacity beyond the scope of words and coverage of thoughts. He is blessed with the same.

The characters etched by him are equally effective and convincing in their character and attitude. Be it a young widowed wife or a elderly but committed police officer, he has done justice with them alike. Though, at times I had a few questions hanging at the back of the mind but they were answered in a well-crafted manner by the last chapter.  When other authors of the same genre work out plots with numerous characters in order to impart a realistic feel, he chose to craft a story that is closer to reality and continued wit selected characters only. This made is easy to be engrossed in the story and be thrilled all the while instead of remembering the complex connections amongst unrelated relations and hidden agendas!

To add an extra zing, he has also thrown some light on issues such as extra-marital affairs, cousin rivalry, deceiving friends and corruption seeped into the government procedures. You will find that he has never exaggerated any of the incidents and kept hold of a low note thus making it realistic and easily digestible. With this story he attempts to move a step back and look into the situation to get a holistic view of how does crime creep into a cool and decent minds and hampers the society with bad names! He gives you a second chance to re-think your deeds. Give him a chance!

About the Author

Jasper was born and raised in one of Delhi’s most notorious areas, in close proximity to criminals; enabling him to have intricate insights into the world of criminals and crime. As he grew up, he came across a lot of criminals with various backgrounds hailing from almost all parts of north India. Some were friends and some foes. Everyone had their own unique stories to tell. This story is asper’s attempt to capture some of his personal experiences and translate them into a piece of fiction to entertain his readers.

He had written the synopsis of this story almost six years ago but he never had the inclination to write the complete story because of his hectic work schedule…till his wife and children really egged him on to finally finish it. Thus, this book qualifies to be the consequence of the direct ragging of the ‘wife and the kids’ and therefore dedicated to them.

It seems as, if it was destiny that made film switch his graduation course from Commerce to English Literature as today that very choice of his course has played a pivotal role in evolving and embellishing his writing abilities.
